My Most Memorable Sports Moment #3: Tyree’s one-handed helmet catch in Super Bowl XLII

What a coincidence! These two teams are playing Sunday in the Super Bowl.

Super Bowl XLII was probably one of the most entertaining, if not the most, entertaining Super Bowl I’ve ever watch. The Patriots were perfect. Pundits still wondered if Eli Manning could be an Elite quarterback like Peyton. It was truly a David versus Goliath match-up.

Before the catch, the game was 14-10, New England with 2:42 seconds left in the fourth quarter after the Brady-Moses connection for a touchdown. The Giants moved the ball down the field and even converted a 4th and 1 to keep the drive alive. Then on 3rd and 5 with a 1:15 left to play, Manning danced around in the backfield for his life, missing hits from Thomas, Green, and Seymour to keep the play alive. Finally he heaves up the ball to Tyree who was closely covered by Rodney Harrison. Tyree out jumped Harrison to catch the ball and pinned it against his helmet, maintaining possession and gaining 32 yards. That play would lead to the fantastic catch by Plaxico Burress for the game winning touchdown.

This was an athletic play during a pressure moment on the biggest stage in sports (for Americans at least), that lead to an upset for the ages.  I just hope these two teams can live up to Super Bowl XLII this weekend.

If you like to relive the moment NFL Films does a fantastic job.
